Dropped retainer cotter! Oh NOOOOOOO!
While installing AP2 retainers on my intake valves I lost one. As I was trying to position the new cotters in one of the retainers it got wedged and then shot out.....somewhere!!!! It sounded like it dropped down the side of the engine, under the intake manifold, toward the floor. After sweeping the floor and feeling around the engine bay I can't find it. I had plugged the oil returns, timing chain area and spark plug holes prior to starting. I bought another cotter and finished installing the retainers. I dont want to put everything back together before I account for the lost cotter.
Anyone have any ideas or tricks that might help me find it?

If its in the motor chances are its down in the oil pan.. its perfectly safe down there. it'll most likely come out when you change the oil.
If it flew under the intake manifold there are tons of places that could have caught it. Just make sure its not in the head and you'll be good to go.
