dropping low idle

Hey guys,
I've been driving around for a week now with the same problem: everytime I take the car out of gear, and slow down for a stop sign/redlight, etc., the idle drops to about 500-600 rpm, recovers to 1k and repeats this pattern at every "slow-down"... I've recently (past 2 months) had my battery and alternator replaced, as they caused a similar problem, but the car died rather than stay on, so I think it's got nothing to do with that... any input??? thanks!!

also...

don't pop it out of gear before you come to a stop. leave it in gear and coast. take it out of gear and put in neutral when your rpm drops to just above 1 (ie you're almost stopped.)
