Default E-manage Support Tool cable

Anyone have a the E-manage Support Tool cable and a multimeter?

If so, would you mind doing a continuity test between the contacts on the USB plug end and the D9 end? There are only 4 contacts and the shell.

When you look at the D9 plug the top left pin is pin 1 and the top row is 1-5. Bottom row is 6-9.

Your efforts are appreciated.

I've got one in front of me but I really don't want to run any current through the connections. On the serial side of the cable, there is a circuit board and ICs that I don't how they would react to a multi-meter. I order this from Malaysia and waited 3 weeks for it and I'm not going to wait another 3 weeks for another one. Sorry.

Fair enough (and thanks for the response).

I assumed it was a straight serial cable with the only complication being the USB type connector. Apparently it is more than that.

I've since ordered one locally ($AUD237!) because the Malaysian contact has been a tad flakey recently. At least one person says they sent money months ago and hasn't received product, and he's not responding to e-mails.

The confusion is that this cable is a Serial to USB adaptor. In my understanding there is no such thing. There are plenty of USB to serial adaptors, and if your laptop has only USB (As many do these days) then you would require the USB to Serial adaptor, then the Greddy cable.

As I understand it the signal at the E-manage end is serial. Not sure what the electronics are in the cable, but it's probably some buffer or line filtering. It may also perform some handshaking as the USB connection on the E-manage only has 4 connections and serial generally has more for 4.

When I get mine I'll be disassembling and checking out the circuitry. If it's not too hard I'll make up some copies.
