what is damping force?

i've been trying to search the internet for an explanantion but it just spits out equations.

I know the EDFC from tein has to do with adjusting the damping force for your coilovers suspension. so what does that mean? does that mean you can adjust the ride height of your car? or how stiff your car is?

thanks your input is greatly appreciated,

It's the force required to compress your struts. Bound and rebound.
