In lieu of swaps, my friend who is an endurance racer (1st place in WRL) with a c5 and and ls3 junkyard motor is convincing me to buy a c5 and be done with Honda. He has many points. I am toying with an LS1 swap at the moment. If these f series motors were more plentiful and cheaper, I'd stay with the platform.

I can find a couple of folks who say that about any engine. Read the last three post, these guys have a different view.

I think it would be fun to have a blower sticking out of the hood, old school meet S2000.

If your going with a C5 or C6 you will have to mod it to if you want to be competitive and then you'll have one like all the others out there.
I have a '93 Lingenfelter ZR1 that smokes most stock Corvettes but I would have more fun in a S2000 with a little more hp and tq. than what I have now.
But its my wifes S2000 and that will be up to her if and when this engine lets go(have 144k miles now).

I understand I'd have to modify a corvette all over again since my s2000 already has rollbar, bucket seat, and 6pt harness. Cost wise, it would probably be cheaper to use the s2000 as the platform vs selling it and buying a corvette. My goal is to find an engine that isn't going to blow up and if it does, it won't cost me a kidney. Yes, this is a near impossible feat because all engines will eventually fail even with proper maintenance. I also understand the reality of racing puts a considerable amount of wear. The biggest problem is the F20/F22c motors will eventually run out. They only made about 60K in the US, I don't know how many are F22 but that brings that 60k number down considerably.

Weighing out the costs of different engines and swaps:
1. Low mileage F22c, imported (can't find low mileage engines in US) - $5k
2. Junked S2000 /w low mileage F22c - $3-5k + Shipping (Can part out the junked car)
3. K24 Swap - $1k motor + $3k in needed swap parts
4. Low mileage LS1 + T56 $6k (motor + trans) + $2k Import Muscle swap parts (It is recommended to put an upgraded rear diff with the extra torque, so add $3k for the swap parts + $100 for diff) $12k
5. Low mileage C5 corvette $15k + needed safety parts ~$4k ($19k)

Mileage doesn't matter that much. As long as valve leakage and compression are good, I personally would gladly take a 100k+ mile engine. That's my personal opinion, there are certainly others.

I did a compression test on it when I got it. Cyl 1 was lower than 2, 3, 4 but within spec. I'll know more what happened when I pull the head. My guess the retainer snapped, released the valve, valve shot up from the piston and broke the rocker? Likely scenario?

I found a 50k mile motor for $3700 and I'll probably spring on it. As a preventative maintenance and to increase the longevity of the motor, would you guys recommend replacing the retainers and keepers? Anything else I should replace on it to prevent this from happening again?

If it's an AP2 motor leave it be, just mind your shifts. These engines drop valves when you shift from 5th to 2nd going 90.

Yeah its an AP2. When I dropped my valve I shifted from 1st to 2nd... :\

Would putting a lighter weight flywheel help with easing strain on the valve train whilst heel towing?

I am finding a lot of 04-05 engines. My belief is that I can swap these in my 2006 assuming I swap the TB?

I picked your car because it was or I should say 'is" such a clean swap.
Hope your still having fun with it? It's nice to have a little tq. in a light car.
