Default engine check light on after a clutch repair

Hi everyone.once again my s2000 is being temperamental. I've just had the clutch and flywheel fitted and once I picked it up the engine management light came on. I took it back and they did a diagnostic check and they said it was a knock sensor and cleared the fault but it came back on the way home. The engine sounds and goes fine v tec engages no problem. After a bit of searching on the Internet it seems it could be the crank angle sensor or a knock sensor. Or maybe something else? Is there an easy way to check these or if they where broken during the installation is it and expensive repair? If you think it could be something else all help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

They broke your knock sensor while accessing the upper starter bolt.

Very common occurrence by those not familiar with the car.

All you have to do is touch the harness with the extension and it will break the top from the knock sensor.

I have found it easiest to remove belt, belt tensioner, belt tensioner mounting block and such to access knock sensor. Then use an open end wrench to remove.

It's on left side of block, dead center between cyls 2 and 3.

Not easy but not bad if you are good with tools.

Cruising is fine, I'd avoid hard driving until you change it.

Without it, the ECU cannot hear spark-knock and you can damage the engine.

Thanks a lot for your help there's just so much about this sort of thing on the Internet.

Well I'll give it another check over and take it back to the garage on monday since if they broke it I shouldn't have to fork out for it. Since they just had my trousers Dow for the clutch fitting.

One other things is there a easy way to check if it's the actual sensor or the wiring that's been damaged

I assure you 100% that the green plastic top portion of the knock sensor got broken off of the steel portion. It's extremely brittle, especially after a long life of heat/cool cycles.

Your wiring is fine
