edit... i just got my valves adjusted to. noise was their before hand. also.. not to whore thread but billman the timing chain tensioner is while the car is cold correct? because i have a clatter till i hit three bars on the temp guage.

Here is a long shot, but maybe a ticky injector?

Using my stethascope, I didn't hear anything coming from where the injectors are. Seems to be coming from inside the engine.

I didn't forget anything after doing the VA, maybe my clearences are a little out of spec but I doubt that much.

As stated, I had this ticking noise before the VA, but it seems to be a little louder now. Also it goes away after ~2.5k rpms

That sounds pretty much exactly like how mine sounds -- maybe just a tad quieter but it might be due to the recording device. But the tone and the "clanking" sound is just like mine.

I'm starting to think its just normal valvetrain noise -- doesn't seem to be a big problem apparently. The metro summer tech day is coming up and if bill is willing, I might have him take a look around and see if he can give me a definate answer

Tomorrow morning, I might go re-re-recheck the valves to make sure they clearences are where they should be -- at least I have the VA down to memory, no need for the helms manuel

Listened to both and the one in this thread is much more pronounced than the other. The Biz vid doesn't sound unusual at all.
Spec's is a well defined tapping sound. Piston slap? Worst case might be a bum bearing.

Well, I'm no pro. It just doesn't sound any different than any other S2000 engine I've listened to. This is a very mechanical sounding engine. Moreso than any other I've owned.

Spec, did Billman give you any more of a diagnosis (via PM?) besides that it wasn't the T. chain tensioner?

Well the fact that you already had the noise, and it got worse after the valve adjustment COULD be a good sign. The only thing I dont like is that you say you hear it UNDER the car more right? Do you hear the noise more on the exhaust side of the motor as well? What about if you put the scope right on the valve cover and try to listen for the noise? Ive usually heard valve noise louder at the top of the engine but maybe it could be echoing?
