I'd pull the head. That gear is way too important while running.

Yeah I know... well there is someone coming to look at it and I am just going to pay for it to be rebuilt... I was going to get it done before I turbocharged the thing... it's just come a bit too early that's all lol... found someone that does cheap work and also he is a rally specialist so some good hands will be working on it!

Had a local break a timing chain (yeah...one in a million). The damage was pretty minimal compared to an over rev.

If you sheared a valve head (doubt it) or chewed up a piston head (bet it might be barely scuffed) or somehow scored the cyl wall, the head damage is all I would worry about.

Wow... that sucks, but I'm pretty sure this is the second time I've heard of this happening. I can't recall 100%, but I think the other guy had previously had his head off and assumed that the bolt hadn't been torqued back properly.

Yea if that bolt were to fail you are talking about a number of thingsgoing wrong quickly. the rest of the bolt would fall down into where the timing chain is and possibly destroy it while ending up down in the block case, that would cause you to have to pull the block apart anyway. The sprocket could fall into the same area along with the bearings causing more damage. After something like that you are looking at a full motor tear down either way.

Yeah it'll be getting a tear down like!! The sprocket however didn't fall down at all... I think I just have to wait and see... found a Honda specialist in Glasgow that are supposed to be the best!! so will see what happens

you know....

it looks like your cams wouldnt be able to jump a tooth given that the timing gear (chain driven gear) doesnt ahve enough room to come off and allow it to unmwsh the teeth of the cams.

id almost bet that you are ok unless its running like crapola...and i ahvent read your entire post
