Engine Knocking/Rattling
Went too see a honda specialist. He wasnt too sure either.... -_-. He said that it sounds like the head in honesty and not the bottom end. He said that i should adjust the tappets first and slowly start ruling everything out. So that's my next move.
He also said that it could be a damaged Piston wrist pin :/
Mine sounds exactly 100% like this one i found on youtube. And the noise goes away completely when you you rev it.

My 06 made that noise and my 01 makes a version of it. I think it is something along the lines of what I posted above
No Not yet, Its currently 0 Degree's here when i finish work so its difficult to get things done. But when i get home tonight the belt is coming on off and ill test it
Will Removing the Belt Damage Anything? Isnt the water pump on the belt?
I don't think I would worry much about that sound, half the Hondas I have owned have made that exact noise.

I know im probably over reacting but i know a knock from an engine isnt good, And i just cant live with hearing the noise everyday haha. Ill try the Serp belt and see what that helps
Cheers for the replies Guys

Have you tried running it without serpentine belt for 30 sec

That isn't necessarily true though, as described in the video link I posted above, a bit of piston slap may not effect anything.
Hmmmm I pulled off the Serpentine belt today and it made no difference.
I also pulled the coils off the cylinders again and when I pulled the plug from cylinder closest to the timing chain the sound pretty much goes away entirely (I couldnt tell if it was still there a little bit).
So I put the coils back on and got a broom handle and had a listen and I only seem to beable to here the knock through the handle when I place it on the timing chain cover (I changed the timing chain tensioner last month though so it new).
I'm going to drop the sump on Saturday and have a look, I'm also going to put my own oil I'm it because I haven't changed it yet. I will let you all know if it makes a difference

Yep, exact sound both my 06 and 01 made, right down to the description of coming from the timing chain cover. Both seemed to suddenly develop it after an oil change. The 06 had 20k on the odometer, my 01 135k. The 01 runs great and as far as I know the 06 is still running. There have been tons of theories from the timing chain itself, piston slap, connecting pins, rod bearings, etc. Guys have observed the same change in sound when they pull a coil, guys have dropped the pan, but no one seems to have a answer. One thing I can say is as far as I know no one with this sound has lost an engine or even reported poor performance.
Things I've done:
What I did find:
- Changed oil, (caused the sound to start)
- Valve adjustment, (twice)
- Removed serpentine belt, (noise continued)
- Removed coil packs, (noise continued)
- Replaced spark plugs, (noise continued)
- Rebuilt tct
- Replaced tct
- Checked for loose heat shield or loose anything, (none found)
- Checked for damaged rod bearings, (none found)
- Checked for piston slap, (none found)
- Checked for wall scoring, (none found)
- Checked for sloppy wrist pins, (none found)
- Checked for rod side-side play, (none found)
- Checked for metal flakes in pan, (none found)
- Checked for metal flakes in sump, (none found)
- Checked for metal flakes in vtec solenoid screen, (none found)
- Banged my head against the wall out of aggravation, (didn't help)
What I did find:
- Timing chain on the problem engine is a hair looser than my spare F20C sitting in the garage.
- My friend's Mazdaspeed3 made the same noise when his guides started failing.
- See if, (and how far), the timing mark on the damper pulley and upper timing gear are off alignment.
- Possibly try the Ballade Sports "timing correction" gear. Worth a shot I suppose..
Mine s2 had that noise right after an oil change as well. I took my belt off and the noise kind of went away. I change both static pulleys I kind of still hear the noise. It's driving me crazy. I'm afraid to drive the car because I don't want to mess anything up.
I wouldn't worry much about it man, I do not think it is anything that is a real problem, like I said I have had 3 different Hondas make the exact same sound, they all run great. I actually think my Odyssey makes it too.
