Well, the rod runs on bearing surfaces in both the large and small end of the rod. One on wrist pin is usually brass without a coating.

Before you tear into it pull an oil sample and send it to Blackstone, they will be able to tell you if anything is out of the ordinary

Maybe it's a valve. Sounds like it's coming from the head.? I have the same problem and it seems to sound from right below valve cover.

I have the same problem with the same oil. Happened when I switched from Mobil 1 to Castrol Edge.
I replaced my OEM TCT with Billman's tct and no difference.
Then I replaced my intake retainers on my AP1 with AP2 retainers and adjusted them to .008 and .010.
The retainer job I did got the most of the ticking I previously had to go away but the faint rattle is still there.
Don't know what to do next. I'll try changing to another oil next oil change.

Piston slap is acutally quite common on AP1s...

Interesting. And I thought GM had a patent on that.

Search "Replace retainers with head in place." It's a thread on these boards with the thread title something along those lines. So no, you don't have to remove the head.

Labor for the job will vary between shops. But the parts will be cheaper if you get them from majestic honda compared to hardtopguy.
