Engine Knocking/Rattling
Money and time are both tight right now. It will be awhile before I tear into the motor and figure out what's going on.
One of the little strange things I have noticed about my '03 AP1 is that I get a timing chain rattle (or more of that sound) if my oil is too low. When filled up the rattle goes away.
Maybe check your oil level and make sure it is up after you have started it and run it for a bit.

The idea by doing that is that if a rod bearing is bad, removing the coil eliminates compression in that cylinder and will stop rod knock becasuse the lack of compression.

On my stock ap1 I can clearly hear the sound right underneath the valve cover where number 1 piston is at. I opened valve cover up to see if maybe something was loose, but everything was good. It looked very clean. So I'm stumped on my ap1 too. I'm scared to drive it with that sound cut I'm afraid I'll drop a valve or something.these engines are new to me, I'm used to the b-series engines.
Not sure as to what thread billman said that in...

I checked oil and it is spot on where it should be. I was wondering if I added a little more to pass the mark would that maybe help oil pressure go up and maybe get rid of the noise.
