I don't think he's a troll. I think he seriously bought into the Amsoil "sales pitch". I don't dispute that Amsoil is a very good product, but their marketing has much to be desired. Maybe you can get away with 25K mile intervals with it, but for an engine that costs as much as ours to replace, I'll let him be the ginea pig to test it out. It may simply turn out that laziness will cost in the long run.
The oil may be able to continue to lubricate that long, but the filter won't last that long. Additionally, a given volume of oil will hold a given quantity of byproducts of combustion. The big question will be, "Will Amsoil hold the 25K miles worth of byproducts?" And what about sludge buildup after say, 15,000 miles? I don't want to find out. I'm not that lazy.

 

I'd be VERY interested to see a UOA of Amsoil after 25k.

 

How often are you supposed to change the filter?

 

You would be wise to read your owner's manual for this and many other critical bits of information.

As for the oil and filter change, the "severe" schedule would have you changing every 3750 miles.

 

Good point, that is actually one of the things Amsoil says need to be changed every 5k or 10k (I forgot).

I do agree as well: product=good, marketing=shady.

Spin-on filters probably should be replaced at least every six months absolutely regardless of mileage or the oil that is used. The filters are held on by compression of a rubber seal, and if that seal degrades the filter will come off. S2000 filters have proven to be succeptible to spinning themselves off.

 

Well, as long as we're nitpicking, my Helm manual indicates 3750 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. But my manual is for MY'00 and '01.
