Question Engine for parts question.

I have a 2003 S2k with a blown engine (what's actually wrong with it has yet to be determined - coming soon). We think the timing chain let go and bad things followed that.

I'm having a shop in NoVA to put in a new engine (used engine - new to me) this week.

Would it be worth it for me to ask the shop for the old motor. Take it to my house (garage), take it apart and try selling the good bits somewhere (online/Marketplace here or in person) to offset a little of cost of the new motor?

I am quite mechanically inclined and would not feel intimidated tearing it down myself at all. Plus I have the floor space and the tools.

Or has this (in the past) proven to be a waste of time? Like, no one buys these parts? All the valuable bits have been destroyed? I'm interested in getting in there to see if anything is salvageable...
Or would there be a decent demand for the parts that are still good?

Thanks for any insight you all can provide.

Smart answer above! I am making a coffee table out of an F22, just need to finish it now.

If its a complete engine, there are lots of valuables in and on the old motor.

An F20 motor would be awesome to have around I think! Even as a coffee table as others have mentioned. I'd love to have one just to tear down and see how everything works also...
