Default Engine Problem

I have a 2001 S, and I was wondering wat could cause some of these problems im having. It consumes and burns a lot of oil and will occasionally smoke burning white smoke while im at a stop light and pulling off from a red light. Someone please help me with this problem. My friend down at UTI in Orlando said that one of my piston rings could be bad and I need to get a compression test done.

does the white smoke smell sweet? If it does you most likely have coolant leaking into a cylinder. Also, what do you mean by burning a lot of oil? As in how much and how often do you add oil. The ap1s to tend to burn oil.

if it smokes right when you start it up and it white (steam) its coolant oil will be kinda blue and smell like a old motor boat. compression test would be good, you can do a little sniffer test for exhaust gas in the coolant (napa sells the kit) it could be valve guides how many miles are on it?

you've got a problem, perhaps coolant leak

you should do a leakdown test.

Check for any holes on the radiator, as well.
