Engine Problems - Any ideas?
Ok, so I was driving along then all of a sudden the engine starts misfiring and as I come off the power, the engine dies.
I can re-start by giving it a bit of gas but every time the engine dies as soon as my foot comes off the accelerator.
Not an electrical problem, checked all that and have had the car recovered back to my house. The guy from the recovery service says it's engine managment and will need to go to the Honda dealer to go on their diagnostics. Nothing he could do for me.
So I'll take it in tomorrow, but has anyone else had these symptons and can offer any suggestions.
The only unusual thing I did today was run the tank pretty low, but not empty. I filled up with 46 litres of Optimax so there shouldn't be a problem with fuel starvation. The problem occured about 6 miles after filling up.
I am not a complete numptie and did not put diesel in it (although the mechanic did sniff my fuel filler, quite insulting really)

Did you get a "Malfunction Indicator" light (CEL)? If so, get the code pulled so you know what it is.
It is possible you have a serious problem (like a bad ECU) but don't panic just yet. Try the "MAP whack":

And ECU reset (ie, CEL reset, even if you didn't get one, but don't do this if you have one - get the code first):
http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=183490
It is well known that a slightly "off" MAP sensor can cause all sorts of issues without throwing a CEL:
http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=109736
If this fails, you may be a candidate for a new ECU, which has been the cause of some random misfires. This can also be caused by faulty injectors, bad fuel pump, fuel pressure reg, bad coil packs, plugs, etc. Hope it doesn't go this far.
Oh, should also mention Idle Air Control.

I did try the MAP whack, although it was more of a tap than a whack and it didn't solve anything. It's at the Honda dealers now so I'm hoping they will resolve things cheaply without having to replace the ECU, especially as the warranty ran out 9 days ago (typical).

Most manufacturers will honour a genuine claim for some time after the thing runs out.

It's not looking good. Just spoken with the garage and they reckon there is a problem with one of the valves which is either damaged or seized. they can't tel for sure and are going to have to take the cylinder head off to have a proper look at the engine.
They won't do it under warranty either. I think this is going to hurt
