Hi I'm new here so if I do something wrong please let me know. I'm considering buying a 2002 S2000, but there's a rattling in the engine. It sounds like a top end valvetrain type of rattle but when you put your ear up to the valve cover it doesn't sound louder and i can't pinpoint the exact location of it. It's not a low thud rod knock kind of sound, more of a higher pinging top end valvetrain sound. So I was wondering if anyone else had this kind of problem and if so, what am I getting myself into? Also when you apply throttle the rattle smooths out...

Aftermarket engine mounts?

 

Are u sure its not ticking noise cause it will just need valve adjustment.

 

possibly valve adjustment or TCT

 

Also might be the idler or tensioner pulley.

 

A video prolly help.
