What are all these weird sounds I hear?
Is it "normal" to hear all kinds of different sounds coming from the engine? This is my first sports car, so I'm not sure what constitutes as normal engine sounds, but the engine itself always sounds kinda brutish when it's accelerating... doesnt' sound very smooth, sounds more like a rumble than a purr... for some reason, it actually kinda reminds me of the sound of a Corvette engine when you're driving it... it's got a kind of "rough" sound to it. Also, on deceleration, I notice that sometimes I'll hear some slight whirring noises. It almost reminds me of a sportbike engine, all the little characteristic sounds it makes. However, with the topdown, the engine actually sounds much smoother. Is this pretty typical behavior?
yes, normal...
i have only had the top up a couple of times and remember being surprised at the noises too (mainly tranny).
top down, sound of VTEC- you will get used to it.
in fact, i bet you will get addicted to it!

"In an S2000, ... noise is more noticeable since the transmission is between the seats instead of up front in the engine compartment."
This quote from Honda's Service Bulletin 00-054.
It's also much more noticeable with the top up.
Now I feel so much better having imparted those words of wisdom.

I have a ticking/slaping noise coming out of my engine while it's idling. It's not very loud. I know when the oil hasn't spread compleltely, the valve tick is kind of loud. This noise is little louder than that though. I afraid it's a vlave, how do I know? no Egine chech light has come one. Am I paranoid?
