that's not an easy deal to find tho and on top of it, it's not a complete package you had to do things to it..

a second hand sr20 blacktop (the model that came out in the typex 180) goes for around the $2000 mark and that'll even come with a t25g! haha.

the $200 option was something someone like yourself could pull off i wouldn't have the know how to do the things you do with motors =p

So far I've spent $226 on machining and about $1000 on rings, bearings, bolts, gaskets and seals. Plus another $400 for the 3mm head gasket.

Should end up with a completely rebuilt engine for about $2500.

BTW, my other partner in crime in this project is Slow. He is supplying all the bearing, rings, seals and gaskets at excellent prices.

Just goes to prove it ain't what you know.... although it helps to know a bit.

Thanks Slow.

Oh, and as my engine is coming out I figured it was the right time to replace my clutch. I've been running an uprated stock clutch for about 25K now and although it isn't showing any signs of age if I'm going to be upping power I need something more serious.

Some time ago I picked up a worn Exedy Hyper Single from a fellow member. Paid $300 thinking it was a bargain. I took it to a big clutch place today where an old friend of the family works. He said they don't rebuild anymore but he could do me a complete replacement for $1000. Ouch!!!

Fortunately my tenacity shone through. I took it to a little clutch and head specialist I know and he said "Yeah, no prob". Just got a call that the new pads will be in tomorrow and should have a fully reco'd clutch by Monday.

Im getting my block sleeved too. Darton sleeves. Scoring is too deep for honing and i cant find another block in useable condition. I picked up a second block for $400 (with pistons, rods,crank,pulley...) but that one needs sleeves too. So i thought id just hand the cash over and get the damn thing running again.

Im told there'd be no problem with running stock OEM parts with the sleeved block. Is there anything i should look out for???

White, you may want to check that the stock pistons are compatible with sleeves. I expect they are but it would be wise to check now.

If I was going to the hassle and expense of sleeves I would be looking for some advantage such as higher compression or greater capacity for NA or lower compression for FI.

And you're interested I could be tempted to swap my recently honed block for your sleeved one.

Yeah id like to upgrade internals but its costing a damn mint as it is. It would also mean more off road time, and i cant afford that. My builder is certain OEM parts will be fine. At this stage i just want a fun, reliable daily driver. Maybe further on down the track when its my weekend car,i can begin with the more serious upgrades.

In regards to costs, inculding extensive machining to the block and head, various parts like, valves, springs, valve guide....labour, ALL fluids changed and having my car sitting at Chasers for 4 months, $5200. So another $2k on a stroker kit, hi comp pistons,or rods just isnt possible at the moment. Like i said thats somthing for later on down the track. Im just lucky i can catch PT to work and Uni.

Oh ans Aus,theres no way im swapping a sleeved block for a honned one
