Default Engine rebuild or swap?

I have a ap1 s2k and the starter is drawing the starter down to 7amps when I try to turn it over. My mechanic is dropping the oil pan to check clearances for diagnosis of possible bent rods. I've seen talk of a special finish on the cylinders and how it's better to swap the motor.

Can the cylinder sleeve/liner be pulled and replaced?

You've already ruled out the starter and starter relay?

the starter was replaced by the previous owner in an attempt to diagnose the problem.
How does one go about testing the starter relay?
*the knock sensor is broken off on a side note

What would lead you to believe a rod was bent?

Because it struggles to start? What's the voltage drop during cranking? Could be a weak battery, the problem would be more apparent as it's been chilly lately.

The rods on this car are forged, its impossible to bend them naturally aspirated unless you had a detonation from hell.

I wouldnt jump to the "car has an issue, engine swap time" quite yet. I dont think I would just pull the oil pan and start tearing into the engine, either. Id check the battery as a simple solution. Any Cel's?

Bore scope that bad boy. See if your cylinder walls are scorched. If not things might still be ok. You can also depth gauge the TDC's and see if they are all the same. Not accurate enough for clearances but would be for something as large as a bent rod.

Wow! Bent connecting rods? What caused this?

Anyhow, good luck!
