Default Engine removal help

How many hour (labor) does honda say for a complete engine removal and/or install? i cant find it anywhere. Im getting a budget together for an engine build and need to get an idea of cost. My honda guy is very good and only charges $48 per hour labor but i dont know how long it takes. Anyone know from the manual what honda says? Thanks in advance!

I recently got mine replaced at a Honda dealership, albeit under my warranty company's expense, I still got the receipt (for reference purposes). I also made several calls to multiple dealerships to see how long it would take. To my surprise, it is not a fixed price across all dealerships. One dealership wanted $2700 to remove my old engine and to put it in the new one. Another dealership wanted only $1700 for the EXACT same thing. In terms of hours though, my dealership said an engine swap takes 1 full day from opening to closing, so roughly 12 hours assuming everything goes smoothly. Then again, it really depends on the dealership. To get a better answer, I would call your Honda dealership that is offering you the $48/hour labor fee and see what they say. That is most likely the best way to get the most accurate response. If the quoted price is too much, I would call some others in your area and perhaps even try to get them to "price-match" it.

i'd say find a guy/shop that doesnt charge hourly. Charge hourly will come out almost as double.

I've never encountered such a place. Every shop and dealer I've ever talked to charge hourly. Is this common?

There are a few shops in my area that specialize in engine rebuilding and engine swaps that quote a turnkey price for such work and don't charge hourly. Might investigate in your area and see if there are any such in yours.
