Default Engine Stutter

Hey guys, this has been happening for some time now, it's getting a bit annoying. I have a 2000 AP1 w/162k daily driver. I bought the car at 150k from an older retired gentleman back in February. When I'm accelerating normally while in either first or second, the car would stutter at about 2000 rpm, this happens especially if I'm accelerating up an incline. Feels like an instant misfire or something. There are no codes. What can be wrong?

Check valve adjustment...especially with that amount of miles....also check the stupid things, plugs, coils, etc.

Besides checking the stuff Jordan just posted, why are you trying to accelerate up an incline with only 2000 rpm? If you are in 2nd, you should be going into 1st. If you are in 1st, you need to learn to use more rpm, slip the clutch a bit, get higher into the power/torque band. Call up the old guy you bought it from. I'll bet he knows how to drive it.

Let me please clarify, when I said incline, I don't mean like a ramp or anything, just a road headed up a very small hill. It also happens on flat roads as well. This isn't my first rodeo with a manual transmission, so I'm convinced it isn't my driving. It is my first Honda however.

It doesn't matter that this isn't your first manual nor does it matter if this is or isn't your first Honda. It's your first S2000. And in this car, 2000 rpm is not enough to do much of anything. It takes xx lb/ft and xx hp to get 3000 lbs of car moving faster (ie, accelerate). The power and torque of an S2000 at 2000 rpm is not sufficient to "accelerate" briskly or even moderately on the level, let alone up a slight hill. Add in a hot intake (which this car is very susceptible to) and you aggravate the situation. I refrain from using the term "problem" as I don't believe it's a problem in this case. This is a different kind of rodeo and a lot of egos have been dented riding this animal.
I'm sorry but this is the last I shall comment in this thread as it will only serve to stress your sensitivity. I've been preaching this topic for 12 years. I'm out of sermons. I wish you luck in finding out what the "problem" might be. You have already set your mind as to what it isn't.

Pretty much as the above post. I came from a evo 6 so driving the honda s2000 is strange for me to with no low torque and all the HP high up in the Rev range

There's a reason why Dave has 36,000+ posts. He knows his shit..... But choose to ignore what he's stated, and he's not going to help you. I guarantee he won't lose any sleep over a guest with 6 posts being upset with him.

Alter your driving style/shift points. If it's still an issue, do as I said as it's most likely one of those causes.

When this happens, the clutch is fully engaged. I take off just fine, nice and smooth, clutch fully engaged, at about 2500 rpm the motor just stops for a split second, then continues as normal.

Finally got to the bottom of this, it was actually time to replace the coils and plugs. Purchased a set of ngk laser iridiums, and oem RRA type coils, runs/idles very smooth. The "torque" was DEFINITELY not a factor here.

I agree with a few others above. The plugs were probably in need of replacement, but driving the S2000 is different. In some cases you learn the little things that aggravate the car, even if nothing is really wrong. I have almost built a six sense and can feel small differences in performance even though I do not drive mine but on weekends. You will find the little quirks as ownership increases, but it will put smiles on your face everyday.

Glad you found the problem. Wait till you get the motor bog/stall effect when at idle.
