Default engine temp

on my 2004 S2K, especially in the summer heat in SC, when I get home from about a 30 minute afternoon drive, I get a very slight smell or the engine just being really "hot". hard to explain. it's not exactly a coolant smell but is noticeable.

when the engine is COOL first thing in the morning, I have checked the radiator and also the overflow. the overflow level, when cool, seems to be very low (below the "low") line.

just hit 106,000 miles. the temp gauge looks in normal range at all times.

does this suggest a small coolant or radiator leak etc...or is this a normal overflow cannister level when the engine has not yet been started?

thanks

mike

check your coolant level in the overflow reservoir at the same 'time' between drives. Either cold, or right after a drive is what I suggest (engine at operating temperature).

The coolant will expand with heat so there will be more in the reservoir when the engine is at normal operating temperature. At cold, it will be noticably lower.

If you're noticing a change in level cold-to-cold, or hot-to-hot. You may have a problem.
