Default EPS issue that won't reset

Hi All,

The EPS light came on on my 2008 S2K on Saturday.
I've had a good dig through here and tried the reset procedure, both shorting the SCS connector and pins 4 + 9 on the OBD connector. Both methods just cycle through three fault codes, the reset procedure doesn't even start.

The codes are: 3, 23 and 34
34 (main microcomputer) looks bad to me!

There's no power at the multi-plug on the power steering motor.

I'm planning to take out the battery and control unit tomorrow night to clean up contacts and maybe even a little "percussive maintenance"

Assuming that doesn't make any difference, I was then going to look for a replacement on eBay. I'm a little unsure as to what to look for in terms of model number.
I've attached a (dodgy) picture of the label from mine.

Which if these should I look to match from an eBay part?

Thanks in advance
Mark

EPS UNIT
This Fits Your 2008 Honda

Part Number: 39980-S2A-A05
Supersession(s): 39980-S2A-A04; 39980-S2A-A03; 39980S2AA03; 39980S2AA04

You may be able to find the OE part (Honda didn't make this). New part retails for over $1000 so Ebay would be the place to start.

Got the service manual? Throwing multiple-hundred dollar parts at the car very frequently doesn't fix it.

I found that if you don't turn the wheel to 45 degree and hold it there the process doesn't start. Just got done work through a few eps codes myself.

I had code 3 and 23. I replaced the eps module and that cleared code 23. Code 3 I had to replace my steering rack after diagnosis.

Chuck,
Thanks for the quick response!

When you say supersession, do you mean that the A04 won't work? I've found two of those on ebay quite cheap, but no -A05's on there at the moment.

I haven't got the service manual. I have had a quick dig around, but can't see how to get a copy for a 2008 UK model. Any ideas?

I'll try again after I've refitted the EPS ECU.
There's quite a camber on our road, maybe I'll head off to a nice flat carpark somewhere.

After removing and refitting the ECU, I managed to get the reset procedure to complete.
Just code 3 left now.

Superseded merely indicated the old part number is revoked and this is the current and correct number. Older parts should work.

This is a link to the US/CDA Service Manual. Other than your steering wheel being on the wrong side of the car I can't imagine the trouble shooting of the EPS system will be different.
