Default EPS quit

Well I park my car, get out, noticed my crooked parking and went back inside to readjust. Turn the car on and the steering wheel is very hard to move and EPS light is on. Hmmm, so I park the car and get to class. 6 hours later it works again.

Anything that I should be worried about? Thanks guys.

Not if it doesn't happen again. EPS can occasionally get confused by mismatches between the various sensors. It shuts itself off in that case. Normally, a very short amount of time driving will reset it.

It does throw codes, which can be used for diagnosis.

Main thing that usually causes this is high RPMs (over 2000) without the car moving, or low RPMS (under 500) with the car moving. In both cases the EPS suspects a bad speed sensor and shuts itself off.

Can these codes be checked with a OBD scan tool? Or is there more to it?

They can be checked with a Honda tool. I'm not certain if they can be checked with a generic tool, since they aren't standard OBDII codes. Maybe Slows2k knows?

The short answer is no. Only very high end non-OEM code readers can check ABS, SRS, EPS, ATTS etc. I think the Snap-On MODIS can read these codes, but it's more than the HDS or the cool OEM pocket version. (I wonder If they have to pay extra license fees to individual manufacturers to include this extra functionality, as is the case with some software suites.)
The "blink" codes for the EPS DTC's can be checked by jumping PIN's on the OBDII DLC then looked up without an expensive tool though.

Same thing shown here:
http://www.k-series.com/tech_detail.php?Tech_ID=CEL
Only the EPS light blinks instead of the CEL.

EDIT: I guess the other way would be to use a laptop running the HDS software hooked up to the car via HIM. (Honda Interface Module) I think this is the cheapest of the 3 HDS methods supported by Honda.
