exhaust smoke
I need help, I live in NY and it's cold here now(winter), the problem is even after the car is warmed up, there is still that smoke coming from the exhaust like when your letting the car warm up. Shouldn't that go away after the car is warm? Can someone tell me what this might be or be caused by? - thanks (smjpcny@yahoo.com)
I dont think its anything to worry about if your car is running fine. Its probably condensation that got into your exhaust over night or a period of time. Plus warm/hot air comming out of your exhaust pipe mixed w. cold air creates 'smoke' to show. Unless its running real hard and it has performance problems... dont worry about it.
One of the elements that make up gasoline is hydrogen (thus a hydrocarbon). When hydrocarbons burn, one of the combustion products is water. Initially, the water is a vapor that can't be seen, but the cold outside temperature condenses the vapor so it is visible. The same way as you can "see your breath" in those inhospitable climates.
