Default exhaust suddenly really loud?

I don't know if this is a coincidence or not, but my gf's dc5 with 5zigen fireball exhaust suddenly got extremely loud after a large storm passed. the sound is coming from the exhaust tip so I don't think its an exhaust leak, the exhaust just sounds louder. like 5x louder. I think I remember reading somewhere that people were putting water into their mufflers and they would get louder...is that possible? maybe the storm blew a lot of water into the big tip? any ideas would help... thanks

I have... Back in the day some buddies would put cherry bombs on their lifted Z71s and such. They would put water in the mufflers and then fire them up. Basically just messes the inside of the muffler up and is pretty much a cheap way to make your car loud and still be legal. As far as performance losses or gains for that matter I have no idea. But i guess if it rained hard enough the same concept could apply here.

Good Luck!

It depends on the type of muffler IMO.
An "absorber" muffler won't absorb hot gasses when filled with water.
No absorbing => more noise.
The hot gasses should evaporate the water making the muffler absorb again.
Thats all I can think of.
