Extremely loud squeaking noise!
Last friday i got in MY00 and noticed a metal to metal sound coming from the right rear wheel. I get out and look at the brakes, brake pad is very low. I think no problem and have an appointment set up for today. Drop off the car, they replace the pads and resurface the rotors. As soon as I pick up the car I notice a very loud scratching/squeaking noise coming from the right rear wheel. It honestly sound like nails running down a chalkboard. Like metal to metal sound. I talk to the manager and he agrees that the sound is not right. He tells me that it might be the brake pad hasn't worked itself into the rotor? Anyways he says they can't do anything about it tonite and to come back in the morning if it continues. In the meantime I am to drive it around. Now here is the weird part. It only makes this awful noise when in drive, not in reverse. Any and all help or comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance guys
Yes, this is on a 2000 s2000. What I meant by "drive" was it makes the noise whenever the car is in a forward gear. When i put it in reverse to exit the garage it is silent, but as soon as put into 1st gear, and start to move forward the noise is there. Sry i didnt make the situation clearer.
When you make the noise, can you change it by operating the ebrake? I'm making a guess that perhaps something wasn't put on correctly. Usually, drum brakes have a self adjust when you back up. I'm not sure if the S2000 disc brakes do this, but it might have something to do with it, along with the ebrake mechanism.

Is the sound made before service and the sound made after service the same or are they different?
If different then its quite possible the sound from before service was caused by a completely worn brake pad. And, the sound after service was caused by an improperly installed rear pad. The rear pads require the brake caliper piston to be oriented in the correct manner for the inner rear pad to set flush against the rotor.
