Cleaning the air filter, taking out the throttle body and cleaning it might help. Take the MAP out aswell, clean it with air. There's a little channel inside the throttle body which leads the air to the map sensor, if it's dirty, you'll have MAP problems which will lead to very bad AF mixture and oil consumption.

when i take my car for the emmissions test, i put 97 RON in for at least 4 tanks before hand, and i also the engine hard and make sure they do the emmissions test as soon as i get there as that is when everything is out the system and no bad stuff gets settled ready to blow out when they start the car up.

Here are the numbers from the Emissions Report:

Hydrocarbons (HC)
My car: 0.0921 g/km
Max allowable: 0.37 g/km

Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx)
My car: 0.1371 g/km
Max allowable: 0.93 g/km

Carbon Minoxide (CO)
My car: 6.8817 g/km
Max allowable: 6.21 g/km

Vehicle's on board diagnostics check:
MIL engine off (KOEO) = Pass
MIL eninge on (KOER) = Pass
DLC Tampering = Pass
OBD 2 Communications = Pass
MIL Command Status = Pass

So help me understand this... my guess is that engine is running really rich.

Possibilities:
1) Air + fuel + low spark = change spark plugs
2) Not enough air + fuel = Old air filter, gunk in TB, or Map problem
3) Bad Catylitic Converter
4) Bad O2 sensor

I've been told to drive the car really hard on the highway to heat up the O2 sensor and clean out the engine. Is it better to keep the car in vtec near redline or keep the rev's low and Full Open Throttle?

well my advice once again is.... find some really nice open country roads and blast your way down them keep in vtec as much as you can!!!

making the engine work hard will blow everything out the system and plus the car loves it!!

I think that's what I have to do. I only drive the S2000 about 4 months out of the year and I don't drive it hard at all. I guess that may have something to do with it also.

Beating the crap out of the car is not going to help.

I would recommend a 1/2 hr trip before going in for the test, and keep the car idling. The cat works best when it's hot.

the cat is toast little buddy.
if youve done all the stuff you mentioned above, map whack etc. and still have all the readings that high, your cat is roached. prob wouldnt hurt to remove the injectors, and have them professionally cleaned and checked. like one of the other guys on here did. you could have nasty plug up, and crappy spray patterns.
if you have emissions warranty, honda should be able to find this. we shall see.
best of luck. dave

MIC, (btw did you chance your screenname on me?? sorry 'boot that)

Since HC is still relatively low, I tend to not think that your cat is toast.

But, the CO values you state are roughly double of when the Check Engine Lamp has to come on under normal conditions (I believe US and CAN versions would have the same emission system requirments).

However, these kind of levels are normal when it's really cold outside (freezing) and with a relatively short drive until the checkpoint.

So depending on the circumstances Billman250 could have a good point.

If this (i.e. nice and hot cat) doesn't resolve the problem, it might be worthwile contacting Honda explaining their emission control system is not meeting the requirements and they might want to investigate the problem.

Please keep me posted!

Cat has to be really hot to work...see if the tech can rev it a little for a couple of minutes immediately before doing the test...I've had cars that I drove hard just prior to the test, sat for 15 minutes then failed...but put back on the dyno for testing again and passed just from being warmed up more.
