Failing Rear Drive Shaft
I was told by my mechanic that I need to replace my rear drive shaft on passenger side.
The sympoms were single "click" from rear-right or rear-center when moving from stop just after lifting off the clutch (1st gear). Or when giving a quick "jab" of throttle at constant load (2nd gear)
.
The mech recommands that I replace the entire shaft assembly (upwards of $500) instead of trying to pin-point which component of the assembly and just replacing it.
Is he just being lazy or is it really a sound advise? Anybody have similar experience? Is it usual to have a shaft go like this at 45K
?
Thanks in advance.

Chances are there's a simple fix for this if this turns out to be your problem. There's a TSB for this issued to the dealerships. Check out this thread (there are many concerning this if you do a search) click here. Hope it's that easy. 5 bills is a stiff penality for retorquing a nut.
Thank you so much for the info about the TSB
. That sounds very plausible. Made an appointment today...hopefully they won't give me hard time even if I can't reproduce the sound for them.
