Default Fan Switch Question

I looked at the service manual and I think I know the answer. BUT...

...Could someone confirm that you cannot change the fan switch without draining the radiator?

If you don't take the radiator cap off and are real quick you only spill a little bit.

No, I didn't think you actually did it Sideways. Sorry. Don't be offended!

I just wanted someone who tried it not someone who was guessing! Obviously you guys have done it. I just don't want to dump my coolant again after only 500-600 miles!
