Default A few quick questions & intro...

Hi all,
I'm in the process of buying a 2000 S2000. It was time for the wife's car to go, and the S2K came along at the right price ($14k).

It's got 60k miles on it, and I'm planning to take care of the following when I pick it up:
- oil change (synth)
- diff oil (mobil 1 75W90)
- tranny oil (Honda MTF)
- air filter (OEM)
- plugs (OEM)
- tires (Kumho's, 245/45 rear, 205/55 front)

My question is, the car had a couple "problems".
One was that, under deceleration in any gear at any RPM (although more noticeable at higher RPM's) there was a VERY noticeable rattle. I'm inclined to think it's simply the cat heat shield, but I'm curious what it might be. The sound would go away if I clutched, or if I got back on the throttle.

Second issue was that the idle seemed a bit rough. Perhaps it's simply a tuneup that's required and I didn't hear any valve noise, but I'm wondering if perhaps I should plan on doing a valve adjustment as well.

If there's anything else I should expect from a 2000 with around 60k on it, I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks!

You could search for 'TSB' and get quite a bit of information on the S2000. One of the common problems is a clutch related rattle or vibration, fixed by replacing the clutch with a revised part. Your noise could also be heat shield related. The second thread in this forum 'Commonly asked....' contains links to good reading material.

I'd have a compression & cylinder leakdown test done before buying. That would cover the most expensive potential issues.

$14K sounds like a good price.

OK - I'll modify what I said:

$14K sounds like a good price ... If there are no engine issues and if it has not been crashed or salvaged.
