Final drive opinions
Ok, I am considering doing this (4.33s) very soon. Anyone have any experience with this? What will I need to buy besides the gearing itself? Bearings etc? I know it will make RPMs slightly higher at speed but I do not care. Where can I purchase this and the "yellow box" I have read about? Also, how much can I expect to spend on labor for instalation? Will this make a decent improvement on 1/4 mile times? Sorry for the ignorance, but I have no experience with gear changes. Thanks
No one offers 4.33s. J's makes a 4.30 It will make a slight difference in the quarter mile time but IMHO the 4.44s would make a greater difference if you are all motor. The cost of the ring and pinion is around $1000 from IDI. A shop will charge $400 to $500+ to set it up and do the install. No bearings are needed and most shops can get or manufacture the crush washers that are so critical. The little yellow box is about $100. So for $1600 or so you can change the final drive ratio. Going with the 4.44 IMHO will give you the greatest bang for the buck.
Yea, what Glenn said. I'm local, and I've got the yellowbox and the J's Racing final drive 4.44.
If you need any info/help just pm me. I can also hook you up with a great shop to do the gearing install(but it is in CT, right off I-84 about 30min from the MA border).
I've also go some other goodies on my car too
