Default First oil change

I finally got around to doing some basic maintenance on the 80k miles s2000 I just bought... in my tiny garage.

When I was doing the first oil change, I noticed some latex-like material exploding out from the seam between the oil pan and the engine casing.

Is this normal? I figure its the gasket, but I don't think I've ever seen one spilling out like that.

It looks like your top is not coming down all the way. I bet your elastic bands are shot. Buy some from Modfry. Easy. Cheap. They work.

Thanks cosmomiller. Yeah, those straps are super saggy, I'll pick up those modifry ones.

What reasons might someone have removed the oil pan?

Did you torque your oil filter to 16 ft?

I didn't measure the torque of the oil filter.

I screwed on an OEM filter until the rubber gasket contacted the engine block.

Once there, I used an OEM filter tool to screw it 7/8th more turn (6 was looking straight down on me, so I turned it until I saw 5)

Thanks for the post and photos. Love the Black! '06 or '07?

I'm about to get under mine in another week or two (once all the "stuff" arrives). Gearbox and differential lube changes.

My retracted top looks like yours ('06) and I ordered the replacement straps. Until they arrive I just manually push the offending bow down as the top retracts. Stows surprisingly lower.

Ran nearly 100 miles in the rain yesterday (first time). Everything seems tight and the new Bridgestone RE11As didn't seem to know the difference.

That works perfectly too.

Yeah that Honda bond gasket job is bad, as long as you don't have any leaks it should be fine. There shouldn't have been any reason to pull the oil pan on an ap2, hopefully all of your mechanicals check out fine.
