Red face Fuchs oils?

Hi all,
I am considering to change the fluids of my car.
Previous owner says everything was changed two months ago, and every 2000 kms (and I have no reason not to believe him) but somehow I feel better after knowing that I replaced everything myself!!

I like working on cars and currently service about 7 other cars belonging to my family. I always use Fuchs oils and Mahle filters. These are used OEM on MB, Bmw, Vw, etc etc and I never had any problems.

The local agent who I buy from recommended the Supersyn 10w40 fully synthetic oil. I currently use it on another two cars so it would be easy for me.. Less oil cans!
Has anyone used it though. Is it recommended? I like to drive the S hard sometimes. Obviously.

What about the tranny and diff.. From previous posts it seems everyone recommends the oem Honda oils.. Anyone had problems with Fuchs?

Thanks
Patrick

The beautiful weather in Malta simply doesn't get hot enough to warrant a 10W40 - stick with a 10W30. A higher viscosity oil will not provide better protection.

I don't know what transmission fluids are available in Malta - but you need to ensure they meet Honda's MTF requirements. If you decide to use a gear oil (75W90) in your transmission, I'd recommend a GL4 synthetic gear lube. Most modern GL5 lubes are not likely to hurt the 'yellow' metals in your AP1 transmission (synchro pitting), but I'd try to stick to a GL4 fluid to avoid the possibility.

You can use any quality GL5 75W90 or 75W110 in the diff.

I'd stick with the OEM Honda filter for the S2000 (15400-PCX-004). It's a purpose built filter.

FYI the Honda filter is made by FRAM. There are better built filters out there, but the difference on your motor might be moot.

OP - buy oils that meat honda spec. Stick with Honda tranny fluid.

Are FRAM filter that good?

I really believe in Mahle filters. They're the only filters I ever bought that provide 2 washers with the filter for Mercedes cars, just like the OEM ones.

@Rob-2: The honda service manual says (about the diff):
Recommended oil:
Hypoid Gear Oil
API Classification GL5 or GL6
Viscosity SAE #90

Now, Fuchs has the following:
TITAN SINTOPOID SAE 75W-90
API GL-5

It is 75w90 instead of sae90 .. is this a problem? i dont think so.. ?

Re engine oil ...
Workshop manual says: 10W30 or 5W40 for cold climates. It also mentions an API Certifiction seal for gasoline engines.
Now, the Fuchs oil which i am already using is this:

TITAN Supersyn SAE 5W-40
Ultra high-performance, fuel-economy oil for a variety of vehicles with or without extended service intervals. Optimum cold starting and lower oil consumption.

Specifications & Approvals:
ACEA A3/B4
API SM/CF
BMW LONGLIFE-98
MB-APPROVAL 229.3
PORSCHE
VW 502 00/505 00

So it seems like it does have the API seal, right?

RE the MTF, it seems I better stick with the OEM one .. Is there just one honda MTF or are there different versions?

Oh and another thing ... brake and clutch fluid.
Workshop manual says to use only honda dot 3...
can i use DOT 5.1? or fuchs DOT 4?

The "new" 15400 S2k filter is made by Filltech.
It was made by ToyoRoki.
Construction and quality is much better than FRAM.
Well documented on S2ki.

Fuchs also makes a huge range of 5W-30 oils.
That's a better choice.
TITAN GT1

Fuchs has an SAE 90 GL-5 gear oil.
TITAN GEAR HYP SAE 90.

Any DOT 3, 4 or 5.1 is fine.

I now used Titan Supersyn 10w40 this time (I spent too much money these couple of weeks and I had 2 cans lying around!) .. but the agent recommended Fuchs Silkolene Pro S 5w-30, aka Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 5w-30. So next time will probably go for this one.

I used Honda MTF. It does shift a bit better now
In the diff, I used Fuchs 75w-90, gl5. the agent recommended the 85w-90 for next time. ( I had this lying around too )
And I bought Fuchs DOT 5.1 and replaced the clutch fluid and brake fluid. And a new clutch master cylinder. All is well, I'm happy !!

Now the only thing I have left is the radiator coolant ... Fuchs / Silkolene Eskimo Long life should be ok, right?
