Fuel filter change?
When and how do we change the fuel filter. Anything special I should be paying attention to now that my car has 65K? It is purring like a kitten! Idle might be slightly more rough than a brand new S but I would have to sit one side by side to really compare.
Pinky, getting to the fuel filter is a royal PITA. I had to change my fuel pump out at about 20K miles (for the S/C install) and it was already showing some staining but not clogged by any means.
First, bleed off the fuel pressure in the system. This can be accomplished easier than what the manual says by pulling the fuel pump fuse under the dash and cranking the motor for about 15 seconds.
You must remove the spare tire and then come from above through the roof well shelf. The rear trim just behind and above the roof well tray must be removed first, then the tray itself must be unfastened and taken out the trunk. If you have an aeroscreen, that must be removed first.
Then you work with your head over the secret compartment and with one arm you must undo all the fasteners from the access hatch. Then all the bolts from the fuel pump itself plus detaching the harness clamp, fuel level sending harness and fuel lines (2). DON'T LOSE ANY OF THE SCREWS AND BOLTS!
Carefully lift out the fuel pump. Have lots of rags to catch the dribbling fuel and take the pump out the trunk. Do your filter swap and the install is the reverse.
Also, don't get your trim piece fastener clips mixed up. They look very similar to each other but they are in fact, different. Keep each fastener's center matched up with its corresponding "outer".

WB xviper! Glad to see your still around. Any reason to change it at 65K or is it more like a 100K thing?
Any other things I need to keep aware of at this point to change? Sometime during the summer I will do a radiator fluid swap.

I am in process of having a "tech day" to hit most all of these points.
I have not reason to question the pressure or filter. Just thinking of what needs maintenance. I will probably wait till 100k before I swap it out.
Serpentine belt.......check for cracks/looseness?
Steering gearbox...........where is it? What to look for?
The rest I can look at/inspect/check for leakage/change fluids/change parts.
I might just leave the coolant flush to the pro's. Though I have read the how to.
Thanks!!!

i removed that rear tray to get more bass from my subwoofer in the trunk, and get rid of some rattles as well. be careful with those clips. they are in TIGHT. i would suggest 2 flathead screwdrivers with the tip wrapped in masking tape. but one on either side of the head of the clip and use the screwdrivers as a lever to pry them out. You will need a lot of force to pry them out (or I am just weak)
