Default Future maintenance/availability

Hi all, I'm in the process of shopping around for an S2K and i'm currious about future parts availability/maintenance. Since the S2K is discontinued, I'm wondering if regular wear and tear items will start becoming scarcer and scarcer so that this car ends up being like a Euro car when it comes to maintenance.

Part of what's attracting me to the car right now, is reliability and over all low maintenance costs when compared to other sports cars. The car, will likely see heavy track use, and I want to make sure that there will be parts available for some time to come.

I guess it's kind of hard to project that far ahead since it's only been 1 year, but what about the AP1s, how different is the motor/tranny on those vs. the AP2 - a lot of shared parts, or a lot of different stuff? Anyone have problems maintaining their AP1s, are parts a bit scarcer for things that aren't shared with the AP2?

sounds like parts will be available from honda for 10 years at least. https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...post&p=18829975

go here and you can get an idea of which parts can be mixed and matched http://www.hardtopguy.com/store/home.php?cat=11

or go here and look up the part numbers for different years and see which ones are the same http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/j.../catdisplay.jsp

I think this issue will become more apparent as our cars get older. I think Honda is required to make parts available for the S2000 customers for 10 years. Then after that, who knows?

The old axiom of "hope for the best, but expect the worst" will ring true for parts. It might be a good idea to start hoarding common failure parts if you plan to keep your car like I do. Junkyards probably won't be much help after awhile, because there just weren't many S2000's made. Buying a spare car for parts might be an option too, or fabricate parts if you're clever.

I've stockpiled a number of used parts for things that commonly fail, but it's my guess that Honda makes a high rate of return on s2000 parts and they will likely make parts for a long time. S2000 parts cost a lot more than other Honda vehicles, they may blame it on the volume thing but I think they charge a premium for s2000 parts and I'm sure s2000 parts all come out of the same factories that make other Honda vehicle parts.

Cool, thanks for info everyone. In any case, parts can't possibly cost more than they did on my last car - '86 944-turbo.

I just gotta settle one more thing, and I should be ready to start shopping for an S2K soon (04+).

Federal law requires the 10 years, but any real demand and they will keep parts in stock for many after that. Nothing really breaks on the ap2.
