Gear grind while clutch is depressed

+1 I've done it before also.Not a thing wrong with the car.Fresh fluids everywhere. My ap1 shifts smoother than my ap2

I agree, happens to me occasionally. Usually I notice in time, clutch back in and shift to neutral to avoid the grind before shifting to the next gear.

no words to describe how good it is to hear both of you say that haha

The previous owner said he changed all fluids at ~ 35,000 miles and right now I'm at ~40,000 miles

yep all normal. you just have to take it out and then put it back in. happens to me too. also common in my reverse gear.

I just feel like I should be changing the MT fluid after it happens because of the awful sound.

Will my "sometimes-crunchy" 2nd gear engagement suffer much from the few grinding mishaps?

My S is running stock fluids though so maybe trying something else will be able to smooth it out.

a few times no, but continually over long periods of times yes.
