Default Gear issues, 6th grinding and 2nd when cold?

Hey guys,

2002 S2k with 98k on clock, noticed when purchased that it was hard to select 2nd gear from cold for first few minutes until engine warms up? Doesn't want to engage and usually grinds if you do get it in? Been getting round it by moving straight to 3rd, by time I need 2nd again engine warm and works as normal. However its now started grinding into 6th if I try to select it from 4th with high revs, seems to select OK if I slow change from 5th with revs dropped? Is the gearbox failing or just clutch? Gearbox oil was done approx 5k ago?

Thanks for any help.

Have you tried changing the clutch fluid and adjusting the clutch pedal?

No I have not but could this cause gear grind? Clutch pedal feels OK, my friend who is on here also has s2k and it grinded on him into 6th when he followed me home in it after picking up my wife's new car yesterday but he thinks clutch felt fine?

If its only difficult to get in to certain gears it probably not the clutch or trans fluid...usually those will impact all gears. Changing the fluid is a good idea, its cheap and will give you a chance to inspect the old fluid. Look for metallic particles in the old fluid, if it looks like metallic paint you have problems. If its still hard to shift after the change it may be time to replace syncros...not the end of the world but do them before too long or you risk damaging hubs and sliders or even the gear itself which can get expensive.
