Default goodyear's gatorback belt

I need a new belt for my car, because it is starting to make noises here and there. But then also, I talked to a honda tech and he says that on some hondas, different belts might cause check engine light? but he never saw one on an s2k. So i wanna know if anyone has it on their car and if it causes check engine light or not...

Thank you.

On rare instances with some Hondas, an Aftermarket alternator belt can cause interference with the CKP sensor and cause Misfire DTC's.

Here's the Service News text that describes the issue:

On ’96–00 Civics, ’97–00 CR-Vs, and ’96–97 del
Sols, if the MIL comes on intermittently and
misfire DTCs are set, without an engine
performance problem, inspect the alternator drive
belt. If the drive belt isn't a Honda drive belt,
remove or replace the drive belt, and retest.
Tech Line has had several cases where the
alternator drive belt caused intermittent misfire
DTCs that could be resolved only by replacing the
drive belt. The root cause of this problem is
related to the quality control of the belt.

I tried the gatorback belt on an 00 ford focus. it whined the entire time I had it on. I wrote to goodyear and though great customer support the second one they sent me did the same thing. I now have a gates belt on the car and it is quiet as the stock belt. The gatorback belt seemed like a good design but did not work for me in practice.

Vortech supplies a Gatorback belt with it's Supercharger kits. I never had a problem with it. You should be fine, but if it's noisy, I'd look into a OEM belt. You may want to compare prices between the 2 belts. The Goodyear may not be much cheaper than the Honda part.

Gee... I hope it won't be noisy. I wasn't concerned about the price. I was more into quality. I've heard a lot of good things about the gatorback, so i assumed it's better than OEM. If OEM's quality is equal or better then gatorback, i might as well go with OEM. But gatorback looks mean

Can you get a refund with gatorback, if the noise won't go away?
