Default Got a CEL at 3200 miles

I got my first CEL today with only 3200 miles on the car. Nothing changed that I know of. Car seems to be running normally, with maybe a slightly rougher idle. Gas cap is tight, although it was last filled a couple weeks ago. GOes to the dealer tomorrow to find out whats up. Is this a regular occurence? Will the CEL go away if the problem goes away or does it have to be reset?

No, it's not a regular occurance. Go to the dealer. There's no point speculating until you get the codes pulled.

The codes stay in EEPROM until they are cleared with the scan tool. I would assume the S2k ECU does a diagnostic run on every 7 cold starts like most the other Hondas?

If that was the case and you had a random misfire the CEL would go away after the 7 cold starts or whatever the number is they chose.

If you have hesitation all the time or rough idle that would be a drivability issue. Do not drive it, if you can. You don't need a fuel problem leaning out a cyl.

Post back what the problem was.

Go to AutoZone and have them pull the code for you. They do it for free.

Dealer says code was P0301 - misfire in #1 cylinder. They cleared the code and say all is well. Hopefully it was just a one time occurence.

Clearing the code will not fix the problem...tell them to diagnose it properly and find the underlying problem. You may have a spark plug that is not tight, you could have a bad connection at the injector, you could have an issue with a tight valve. They should have at least replaced the plug, and swaped coil #1 with coil #2 so they have something to go on when you go back...because you will be back.

I hear this crap all the time, by buddies with WRXs had random misfires all the time threw codes every other week.

They blamed it on fuel, fuel caps, driving style and never did anything to help.

I would at least as mentioned checking the spark plug tightness, I know you are post recall but it cant hurt.

If it comes on again take it back and ask for list of options.

Update: 1 month and 500 miles later the CEL has NOT returned (I probably just angered the CEL gods). Maybe it really was bad gas.

If it comes back I'll update this thread. When I did a search I found lots of threads about the light coming on but few indicated a resolution or whether it ever came back on again. Maybe this will help somebody.

Hi, I used to be plagued with this stupid CEL "thing"!!!! My car is a 2001 model with 30500 miles. I had the same answer like yours initially which waz they've reset it and itz no big deal.

Then I started to experience rough idling...... brought it back to the dealer and they changed all 4 spark plugs as per the recall by Honda. Car ran good for a couple of weeks then the rough idling came back!!!!! This time I brought it to another dealer, got another 4 new plugs!!!!! Car ran ok until a month ago when the CEL came ON together with the rough idling Diagnosis showed that I have a Cyl 2 misfire!!!!

This time Honda replaced all 4 fuel injectors and so far so good...... keeping my fingers crossed!!! I guess juz like other makes and models, the initial pioneer models normally have some probs until the manufacturers sort these probs and make refinements in subsequent years......
