Default Grinding from 1st the 2nd...help!

For some reason, my gears grind from 1st to 2nd from time to time. I have the clutch pressed all the way when I shift too. Is there a problem with my clutch?

What year model and how many miles on your car. Is it a "grind" or does it just feel notchy? My car was a bit notchy when I bought it new in March and as the miles rack up it appears to shift much better even when cold.

Its been posted here that you should slow down your shifting, particularly between first and second.

Try doing a search under the user name "Woodwork" ( a Honda tech that gives good advice) for information on the shifting.

I have a 2001 S2000. I got it February and it has a little over 10,000 miles on it. Its not that its notchy but it grinds. I can hear it. This happens most when I race...I don't power shift or double clutch. It didn't happen in the beginning, but started about couple months after I got it. Maybe I'm trying to shift too fast??? But the thing is, I have the clutch depressed all the way. Any more answers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That link should answer your question. Does it apply to 2001 models? It could I suppose. Since it is a tolerance stacking problem it could potentially effect all years.

You might not want to say that.

I had a similar problems and what the dealer and district service manager for Honda say, is that that bulletin for 00 S2k's don't apply to the 01's.........they say it is common to have that problem.....I got them to put that on writing on my ticket as they also claimed that if I had any tranny or clutch problems down the road, warranty would take care of them.........that same day, they installed my J's racing exhaust :-).......so I think I am covered....my advice to you, get it ALL in writing and be safe.

You have the equivalent of a post TSB grind. Honda doesn't have a fix for this. It is similar to the pre TSB grind on MY 2000 cars, but does not occur as often. If it grinds enough that you can demonstrate the problem, they will claim that you damaged the synchro's. Search on 'grind' and you will find many people with this problem.

whoa i got my car the same time you did, Dannykim. Exept i have a few more miles until 10 thousand. Mines grind too but so far i haven't tried to speed-shift like i did when i was done breaking in at 600. I know Honda made this car for racing purpose but the syncros dont like it when ya speedshift at 9 grand. Well basically by shifting from 1-2 slower i haven't heard any complaints from the syncros for 2nd gear.
