Grinding from 1st the 2nd...help!
I took delivery in 2/01 also. Although I never post I have read the grind threads over the past 9 months. YOU are not the problem, it is the transmission. I have owned the following:
1966 GTO 389 tri-power
85 mr2
85 carrera
91 supra..and others less worthy
I power shifted all of those cars and never had a grind problem.
On 3 occasions I have attemped to speed shift the honda and got the grind each time. It shouldn't be that way but it is. The car is totally enjoyable anyway and you can learn to shift pretty fast with no grind. probably don't lose a .01 of a sec.

If you will do a search you will find that the reports of the problem go back to the first deliveries in '99 and persist through current deliveries. Even though there is a TSB outstanding, the fix is not failproof and many transmissions still grind once they get hot. IMO they have tried to improve the parts tolerance but the basic problem continues as the transmission design appears to require perfect tolerances that the assembly line cannot deliver consistently.
My dealer just completed repairs for the TSB Grind Fix a second time after the first repair resulted in making the problem worse. The technician noted upon dissasembly that the transmission was contaminated with debris from the grinding gears and synchro wear. Simply replacing the gear and synchro sets may not be a lasting solution.
Geez. I'm relieved that it wasn't just me. I thought maybe it was the way I drove, but I'll be more careful and i'll make sure that I don't shift from 1st to 2nd too fast. Thanx for all the replies and info.
Join the club my friend. MY 01 with 18,000 mi and 2nd gear grinds. Mines even popped out of 2nd. I think it's time to take it to the dealer. It's better to complain about it earlier to the dealer and get it in writing.
My 01 with 7K miles grinds but my dealer just performed the TSB work under warranty. I don't know if they recently changed it to cover 01 models but I wasn't about to ask them. I just went in complaining about a 1-2 grind. No hassle, I expected to fight more.
I haven't pushed it yet (still breaking in the sychros) but it feels a little better.

No disrespect intended (Woodwork) but if your car has the "grind" it doesn't just happen at high RPM. I have demonstrated the problem at any RPM including just above idle, and I'm not talking about "notchiness". I hope the '02 tranny is no longer aflicted with this.
Mine does just exactly that - high RPM, quick shift only - still is sub-par to any other car I've owned. I'm not talking about speed shifting, just the same quick snick like I used to do in the Miata.
