Default grinding in 2nd?

Well sometimes when i drive the car in a spirited manner, with a shift at right at 9k into second it will grind if i shift to fast, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th are all fine, no problems here, i mean i slam gears failry quickly and hard, but the clutch peddle is firmly depressed on the floor.

This is disappointing because to avoid it i am forced to slow my 1-2 shift, which is no fun...so could it be a synchro? or a clutch engagement issue? I just bought it about a month ago, should i try flushing the tranny and rear dif fluids?

diff fluid has nothing to do with it, but if it has never been changed, I would certainly do it. Tranny fluid can help, but its more than likely a physical issue. There was a 2nd gear grind TSB for your car since it was a fairly common problem. The fix involved replacing the countershaft 1st gear and the countershaft 2nd gear set. I imagine this is your problem. This was NOT a recall, just a bulletin to service personel detailing the problem.

right, i know the dif fluid has nothing to do with it, i figured i might as well change em together and it should help with the smoothness of my daily driving...will it reduce noice? Is gear noise from the rear typically apparent in these cars?

Thanks for your info about the TSB!!! I was not aware of that, will the dealer normally cover this under warranty if the grinding becomes too bad?

wow, i guess using the search button could do wonders haha, i typed in 1-2 grind and came up with a BUNCH of threads...as well is the apparent noise upon decel while in gear, many are saying clutch plate?

My next question is, can these 2 be replaced under warranty?

Both were often replaced under warranty and a few have gotten them done after waranty via good will, but since your car is 7 years old I say good luck. The decel buzz from the clutch is not a problem.. just an annoyance. There is nothing physically wrong that impairs the cars ability to perform. mine buzzes like a MFers but I don't mind it. If you have some type of extended warranty, again I say good luck. Those generally aren't worth the paper your contract is printed on and they will probably scream driver abuse.

ok I imagine you can get the gear grind issue fixed, but since the clutch isn't actually a problem, it will take some coercing.
