Mine was making the same noise on cold mornings, checked the battery, it was a little low on power - charged the battery and the starter noise went away.

 

havnt drivin my ap1 within a few days and the temp is starting to go down hear in the Northeast..my starter is starting to make that scratch noise...i remember it happening a handfull of times last winter during the snowy months. The noise went away with the warmer months....

im planning on replacing the battery soon and greasing the starter a tad if the noise continues, i feel it should be fine then.

Mine did it once a year or so...now it has gotten worse and doing it on many cold starts.

Time to disect, and find a permanent solution, if there it one.

I have greased the starter teeth and the shaft on a car while I had the trans out and it did not help.

i'm just going to replace my starter when it gets really bad. Once it started happening each start up on my friends car, we replaced the starter and it was gone. Even the sound of the starter sounded better when replaced with a new one.
