Grinding noise when braking ?
Hello Everyone,
I have this "metal grinding noise" in the front of the car whenever I hit the brake, coming to a stop. I couldn't find anything stuck on or around the brake disc, and there is no bent part around the area. My car has only about 13,000 mile on it and I have never track my car. I have change from several set of wheels (16, 17, & 18 inch), I was wondering if that has anything to do with it ? I don't know if the front brake pads are worn? Thanks in advanced for your help.

If you're doing a lot of heavy braking, then it is likely that the grinding noise you describe is the wear indicator doing its job. You should check to see how much pad material is left. If there's not much left, a little tab on the outboard brake pad makes contact with the rotor, making a grinding noise. It doesn't do any damage - it's just annoying enough for you to get them checked out.

If it went away, then it is possible that you had rust on your rotors. The grinding sound will be heard until the rust is eventually swept away by the brake pads. This is common if you wash your car, and let it sit overnight before driving it.

I think you are right. I do was my car and leave it parked overnight and sometime for a few days in a row w.out driving. Thanks. I really appreciate it.
