Anything above 4mph if you want to shift into first, you have to let go very slowly or you rev match. With practice I can see how it would work but I don't see how practical it would be...If it is moving fast enough, just shift it into second!

Always rev match, I've used every other car I've owned to perfect my techniques in preparation for having an S

Unnecessary wear on the clutch and you should be in gear.

In this scenario I always come to a stop first, before putting it into first gear - never had a problem. First gear is so short that if you are moving at all, you probably want to use second gear anyway.

Think about it. Your transmission is spinning relatively slowly in the higher gear at 30MPH, then you are trying to shove it into 1st gear which will require the tranny to spin at high speed. This is very hard on your synchro. It has nothing to do really with rev matching or engine speed. It has to do with road speed and gear selection. This is the case with any manual transmission car.

if you're coasting and still moving, just put it in 2nd.

Not a good idea to be coasting with the clutch down like that.
What's wrong with doing that?
I believe it will wear the throw-out bearing quicker. If you are coasting, just put it in neutral and let the clutch out.

i use the transmission and engine speeds.. hardly touch my brakes.. rarely put it in neutral.. ( except parked ), I generally downshift til it nearly stalls to come to a stop an never touch my brakes, til the last tap and halt.. but.. if I time it right...all the traffic clears out and I never have to brake.. and I can ease on back up to traffic speeds.. if i stay at traffic speed.. all the traffic generally dashes ahead to the next stop light and slams on their brakes.. and i go through the same downshifting to halt and they clear out and i never touch a brake nor really halt..... so.. when to downshift, how to rev match.. do you use first gear.. ( seriously )... been driving a stick since i was 8.. i'm 59... got my license at 14.. and I don't know.. just go do it.. if ya grind a gear... oops..

have 100k miles on this clutch, taken out recently, an returned into service since it still measured out to specs...

well over 100k on the brake pads... Mu400's won at Kami Speed Meet back in like 08'... due soon to be replaced..
