I did a DIY on a hardtop for a 2003 and 2002. But I don't know if it is the same as a 2005:

does anybody know how to take out the roof pillar trims on the hardtop?

Grab them at the top and pull... They are only held in by 4 plastic tabs (one at each corner). If you break one, dont worry, they are replaceable and cost less than a buck at the dealer.
