Default hardtopguy kits

I'm really confused by the hardtop kits out there. Everything would be much more clear if hardtopguy.com listed the kit contents, or if they responded to my message, but now I turn to the web forum.

What exactly is included in the kits? At first I was told that the 05 model didn't need a kit, but now hardtopguy.com changed 02-04 to say 02-05.

Are the "hardtop strikers" the same thing as the 02-05 stock OEM strikers?

You have an '05, right? If so, a new hardtop should come with everything you need. You only need the 02-05 kit if you are buying a used hardtop without the hardware (side catchers, brushes, and defroster plug.

I got a used hardtop.

What are the brushes?

Is the defroster plug part of the side catcher?

Your car is pre-wired for the rear defroster, but there is an extension cable and socket that is part of the kit. It fits into a round cutout in the plastic trim behind the driver's seat. This socket is where the power connector for the hardtop plugs in when on the car. The brushes are found where the convertible frame disappears behind the plastic trim -- just behind the doors. The hardtop brushes have a different shape. Finally, there are the side catchers. These are the blocks that the hardtop locks into.

If you only have the HardTop, you need the 02-05 kit from HardTopGuy. It has everything you need to install it right.

If you bought a NEW hardtop, then yes, the hardtop would have come with all of the parts in the 02-05 kit from hardtopguy.

Since you just bought a hardtop, you need the kit. Also the kit hardtopguy sells is not the same thing as the older Kit A, B and C. It contains everything that is missing.

All OEM hardtops come with a number of parts that are used on all cars, reguardless of year. The Kit A, B and C contained the parts that were needed based on the year of the car.

Now for your questions. "What are the brushes?" With your top down, looking down while you are opening the driver door, look down. See the brush? That is it, only the replacement are differant.

"Is the defroster plug part of the side catcher?" No, the rear catcher has a switch, it inturn is connected to a harness that connects to the plug.
