Default Headlight help PLEASE...

Hey folks,

My car won't pass the JCI (Japanese Compulsory Insurance Inpection) because my USDM AP2 headlights won't adjust enough for left side of road driving. ***NEW INFO: USDM light pattern is opposite from JDM. The pattern is the reason for fail.*** I will have to get JDM headlights to pass here. Looking at AP1 lights because they are cheap, readily available locally, and I only need them for inspection, I plan to swap back to AP2s once the car has passed inspection.

Most write ups/searching address the AP1 to AP2 ballast size issue. Are there any other differences between the headlights, like amount of plugs and/or plug connector differences on the back? AP2 to AP1 shouldn't have any issues will it?

I don't want to pay for AP1s if its not going to work. They seem to be the only headlight readily available here other than cheesy aftermarket halo headlights. I need this car totally legalized and ready for the road like right now.

Your help would be appreciated!!!!

You are using a long screw driver correct? Maybe the adjustment is stuck or jammed so it wont lower anymore?!?! USDM Ap2 head lights should be able to go LOW. AP1/Ap2 have the same adjustment range so I'm thinking its stuck! Or you can pull a fast one on them and pull out the bulb and angle it down and secure it with some duck tape... I would just angle it downwards..

The lights are down as far as they will go. The inspectors are failing it because the USDM light pattern is opposite...

USDM; _/---- and not ----\_ (JDM) if you know what I mean. Billman's headlight aiming thread shows the light patterns I am talking about.

I should have clarified pattern instead of aim but I didn't know initially when I posted. The mechanic who is running the car through legalization told me later this evening it was pattern and not aim.

I got a set of AP1 lights coming from UpGarage hopefully they will hook up an I can attach the AP2 ballasts somehow.

I'd think you don't even need to worry about the ballasts and bulbs - just put the AP1 light assembly in and the bulbs should fit, and the ballasts can be tied down or left loose for the short time you have to get inspection.

Thanks, this is exactly what I am hoping for. I hope I can get the car through by Friday.
