Heat Shield
Drove my 2002 S2000 off the lot 4 weeks ago. Traded in my 1999 Prelude. Everything is GREAT except...the heat shield rattles like crazy in 2nd and 3 rd gear at lower rpms. I assume it is the h.s. Had prob back in the 90's w/ my Civics.
Any advice ? It is actually embarrasing in heavy traffic. Can I just rip it off?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome ocean! Well, best answer is to perform a search on this site for something along the lines of "Heat Shield" and you'll likely find more than a few posts that discuss the fact that it is not a heat shield rattle at all that you are hearing...but rather the design (poor or otherwise, depending on the post) of your S2K's clutch assy. Honda has, depending on S2K MY, a TSB -- Technical Service Bulletin (in your case I believe it is TSB-0054) that is offered as a replacement/fix. Some have reported no further noise once the clutch has been replaced. Some have reported it returns again w/in a few thousand miles. That's the short of it. Add to that, owners that are [typically] not used to: 1) a rear wheel drive that is designed low --and therefore the transmission sits high w/in the cockpit, and 2) a transmission sitting damn near right next to their ears...and therefore allowing us to hear mechanical things that might not be normally picked up.
Anyway, what you are hearing is your S2K's clutch. Some have experienced it more than others. Do a search or two and you'll learn more. Hope you are otherwise enjoying your new S2K. And welcome to the boards...there's tons of info & even more great folks here!
